A huge new Greggs could be built in Leicester Square if plans are approved.
The plans for a 145 square metre bakery were submitted to Westminster City Council on September 20.
The proposals, which are estimated to cost about £2 million, would see a Greggs open by Febuary 2022, with building commencing January 2022.

Planning documents on the council’s site show that an application for a new Greggs store was submitted for a spot that used to house a Simit Sarayi, a Turkish bakery, on the corner under Hotel Indigo.
The application reads: “Whilst the application site is located in a Conservation Area (Leicester Square Conservation Area) it is a well-established busy tourist destination, with many restaurants, entertainment and hotel uses with associated signage and activity.
“There are no listed buildings in the immediate locality that would be harmed by the proposal.”

Once news of the proposal broke on social media, many users rushed to support the idea of a new Greggs in the area.
One student was excited for what the future would bring: “A new IKEA a minute away, and a new Greggs less than ten minutes away from my uni building, I am sorted.”
More information regarding the application can be viewed on the council’s website under the reference number 21/06454/FULL.
