BBC Graham Norton Show: Daniel Craig’s seven year relationship with a Love Actually star and his marriage to a famous actress he first met as a student

It has felt at times that Daniel Craig’s final James Bond film No Time To Die would never make it to the cinema screens.

The much-anticipated movie has been delayed three times due to the pandemic but is finally being released next Thursday (September 30).

So Daniel Craig’s promotional run for the film is underway and he will be joining other members of the cast, and Ed Sheeran, on The Graham Norton Show tonight (Friday, September 24).

Daniel’s personal life is also star studded, his wife an Oscar winner, and an ex was a Love Actually supervillain.

The secret mission, that is Daniel’s personal life, has had its ups and downs. Despite breaking up with Love Actually’s Heike Makatsch, love actually blossomed for Daniel with a sweetheart he first met at university.

Few characters in romantic comedies are as loathed as Daniel’s ex-partner, Heike Makatsch.

She has little more than a few minutes of screen time in the Christmas classic, Love Actually. Despite this she makes a destructive impression.

She plays the character Mia and after flirting with her boss, Harry, played by Alan Rickman, the pair embark on an off-screen fling that leads him to devastate his loyal wife, Emma Thompson.

Daniel Craig’s love life wasn’t so dramatic. He split with Heike on amicable terms.

Daniel met his current wife, and mother of his youngest daughter, years before Hieke. Daniel met current wife, Rachel Weisz, at university.

A dozen years later they rekindled their friendship and it turned into love.

The Telegraph reported that their first encounter was actually in 1994 at the National Theatre Studio. They were both performing in the same play.

It was on the set of the 2011 thriller, Dream House, that their paths crossed again and they found love.

Rachel wasn’t keen on marriage at first but the actress told The Standard in 2018, Daniel had turned her beliefs upside down and changed her mind.

“I never thought I would get married,” she confessed. “It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn’t relate to romantic comedies, marriage seems to be the whole point of them.

“Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment.”

The actor changed her outlook so much, in fact, that she couldn’t be happier as a bride.

“I wear my ring with pride,” she stated. “I’m taken.”

She continued that train of thought in an interview with The New York Times, gushing, “I’m very happy being married, very, very happy. I love being Mrs. Craig.

“I’m Mrs. Craig on my cheque books and passports and things.”

Another major priority is their daughter they welcomed in April 2018. As with most other aspects of their lives, they’ve kept her completely secret.

You can catch Daniel Craig on The Graham Norton Show on BBC one at 10.35pm tonight (Friday, September 24).
