‘Hostage situation’ in south London as man barricades himself in house

Armed police have swooped in to Camberwell in south London to attend to an ongoing “hostage crisis”.

A man has barricaded himself in a house with innocent people held to ransom.

Twitter user Dennis Gill posted at 1.35pm today: “Hostage situation going this minute At Northlands Street SE5.

“South London reports of man barricaded in house police fire counter terrorism unit and fire arms officers”.

Minutes later dozens of armed police officers were pictured at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police also tweeted a reply encouraging those with any information to send a direct message.

Brazilian hostage takers achieved global notoriety earlier this month when they tied kidnapped people to the top of car roofs and used them as human shields.

The Sao Paulo robbery was carried out by a gang of at least 50 armed criminals, with cops later confirming at least three people died.

Three more were injured and two were arrested.
