Good Morning Britain: M25 protester storms off as Susanna Reid tells him he’s ‘so patronising’

Susanna Reid had a heated exchange with a climate change protester on today’s episode of Good Morning Britain (September 22).

The presenter invited protester Liam Norton onto the primetime ITV current affairs show to discuss the ongoing protests on the M25 – and the possibility of them being arrested and taken into custody.

But the chat turned sour as Susanna and co-host Richard Madeley challenged him on his controversial views – and he stormed off the stage.

The M25 protests have resulted in dozens of arrests across the city and have caused frustration for commuters this month as they have faced hours of delays on the busiest ring-road in the country.

Before walking off the air after what became a heated discussion about the principles of the protest, Liam shouted: “Richard, it’s like I’m on repeat because you’re not listening.”

Richard replies: “I am listening and I agree with you,” but Liam was agitated.

Comparing himself to a former prime minister, the protestor said: “Do you know how many MPs supported Winston Churchill in 1937? Six MPs supported him and Churchill was right wasn’t he?”

But Richard was having none of it. He barked back: “You’re comparing yourself to Winston Churchill? You’ve got your fingers in your ears, you just cannot see the reality of what you’re doing.”

Liam shouted back: “We are talking about the future of our country, and the future of our economy and you keep talking about hypothetical situations.

“We’re right, we’re right okay? Richard, we have been writing letters for 30 years, we’ve been writing petitions for 30 years, we’ve been pleading with our Government for 30 years.

“And what we’re saying to the Government is this: ‘this is our line in the sand and you can put us in jail’.”

Before rising from his seat and storming off the stage, he shouted: “I’m fed up of speaking to people in this country,” as Richard mocked him saying: “You’re gonna do a Piers” – referring to when Piers Morgan stormed off the show back in March after a heated debate about Meghan Markle’s claims against the Royal family.

Earlier on in the chat, Liam looked rather embarrassed as fellow guest Dawn Neesom mentioned that Liam’s own home wasn’t insulated.

“It’s a shame that this discussion is being debased in this way,” Liam replied. “Our country is going to be destroyed if we don’t sort this problem.”

But Susanna was having none of it and was shocked to learn that even Liam hadn’t insulated his home, which led him to ask her if she is aware of just how much it costs.

“Just try not to be so patronising when you’re speaking to me,” Susanna retaliated.
