London property: Weird South London flat renting for £175 a week with a bed above the kitchen cupboards

Renting in London is confusing and tortuous and it’s been a long-running joke that some flats have literally bent over backwards to cram all the essentials into a very small space.

In the latest example of this, we have this bizarre flat, currently available to rent in South London for £175 a week on Gumtree, in which the bed is positioned above the kitchen cupboards.

While some might find the arrangement rather odd, it’s perfect for midnight snackers, or for those who want to watch their food cook from the comfort of their bed.

Facing the bed are the property’s oven and fridge, which sit beneath the worktops.

The kitchen comes equipped with electric hobs, a kettle, a microwave, a toaster and a set of dinner plates.

Looking through a set of low-quality photos we can see that the property also comes with a shower cubicle with tiled walls. The toilet sits directly next to the shower.

The flat has a black-and-white theme, with striped bedsheets and chessboard-esque tiles on the kitchen floor. It is described as a double self-contained studio within a Victorian house.

On Gumtree, the property is described as being “suitable” for one or two people and is located a 10-minute walk from Brixton tube station. The area also boasts bus links to the West End, City, Clapham and Balham.

It is also “close to supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, bars and amenities in the area,” the listing adds
