Ugly scenes between Arsenal and Burnley fans mar Gunners’ away win at Turf Moor

Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Burnley was marred by a clash between fans after the final whistle.

The Gunners picked up their first away win of the season, but it was overshadowed by fights breaking out between the two sets of fans after the full-time whistle.

Mikel Arteta’s side dominated the first half without creating many clear-cut opportunities before Bukayo Saka was brought down on the edge of the box just before the half-hour mark.

Norway playmaker Martin Odegaard scored from the resulting free-kick, curling the ball into the top corner with a sublime effort that left Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope with no chance.

Arsenal held on to grab all three points but fans clashed after the game as drinks from both sides appeared to be thrown in a video captured by football.london’s chief Arsenal correspondent Chris Wheatley.

The scenes will frustrate the north London club who will have been pleased to take home all three points in a result that lifts them up to 12th place in the Premier League table.

Similar to last week’s match against Norwich City, the Gunners should have put the game to bed earlier, missing a handful of chances as the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Emile Smith Rowe failed to place close-range efforts that resulted in routine saves for Pope.

Eventually, Burnley fashioned a clear-cut chance of their own just after an hour had been played when Arsenal centre-half Ben White under-hit a back pass to Aaron Ramsdale before the young ‘keeper was adjudged to have fouled Matej Vydra in the penalty area.

However, the penalty was overturned after it became clear that Ramsdale got his foot on the ball before bringing Vydra down.

Arteta’s men held on to grab all three points, a vital win ahead of their clash against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.
