Specialist officers deployed to Oxford Street after reports of man with firearm

City of Westminster Police were tonight (September 18) called to a report of a man with a firearm in Oxford Street.

The call arrived at 9.30pm and specialist firearms officers were deployed immediately and conducted an extensive search of the West End location.

There were no suspects located and no reports of any injuries.

Officers later tweeted: “A large crowd gathered at scene, resulting in some small outbreaks of disorder.

“A number of people were arrested on suspicion of affray and taken into custody. Officers remain on scene.”

There were separate reports of looting outside a sweet shop on Oxford street, multiple arrests and the road closed off.

More than 50 police officers were said to be at the scene in Oxford Street with a police helicopter patrolling overhead.
