Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal career has been a rollercoaster one.
The Gabonese international joined the north London club in January 2018 and was an instant hit, consistently scoring goals for fun.
In fact, it took Aubameyang just 79 Premier League games to notch 50 league goals, four games quicker than Arsenal icon Thierry Henry managed to hit the same target.
The 32-year-old also helped the Gunners clinch their record 14th FA Cup in 2020, netting a brace in the semi-final and final before he signed a long-term deal to keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2023.
However, since penning his new deal, the former Borussia Dortmund frontman has struggled to recapture the same kind of form in front of goal, bagging just ten league goals last term as Mikel Arteta’s side finished in eighth place.

Now, former Liverpool icon Michael Owen has warned the Reds to look at what has happened with Aubameyang at Arsenal before giving Egyptian frontman Mohamed Salah a new bumper contract.
“From a club’s point of view, I know everyone’s going to say, ‘give him what he wants’, but you don’t really want your club doing that,” the ex-England international argued.
“You have to have a bit of structure. All of a sudden if you give him double what [Virgil] Van Dijk’s on, you get a problem again.
“At Arsenal…[Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang’s just been given what he wanted and now look. It’s his last big contract, he’s not going to move now, and he’s on whatever he’s on a week.
“It’s not as easy as that, I think you’ve got to keep a little bit of respect, a nice parity within the club as well.”
Aubameyang will hope he can prove any doubters wrong this season by getting back to form.
So far, the veteran forward has netted four times across all competitions this season, bagging a hat-trick against West Brom in the Carabao Cup before scoring the only goal of the game last weekend against newly-promoted Norwich City.
