Gogglebox families who’ve been booted off the show for breaking the rules

In recent years, the Channel 4 series Gogglebox has cemented its position as one of the most-watched shows on British television.

The driving force behind the show’s popularity has been its wide range of topics and its long-running cast of family members.

However, unforeseen circumstances have meant that the latest season of Gogglebox which is set to return tonight (September 17) will not feature many of the show’s most beloved faces, Birmingham Live reported.

Fans were sad to hear that three beloved families have confirmed that they will not be returning to the show for now.

As the new series prepares to air, here are all the families that have previously been botted off the hit Channel 4 show for breaking the rules.

They were one of the original families on Gogglebox since it first aired in 2013 however Channel 4 made the decision to cut them from the show when family patriarch Andy, decided to run for UKIP.

The Michael Family – consisting of parents Andy and Carolyne and two of their children Alex and Louis – broke the rules of the show as it was decided that Andy couldn’t hold a political seat whilst maintaining his appearance on the show.

In a statement announcing the families departure, Channel 4 said: “It’s with great regret that the Michaels are no longer in the show, sadly any Gogglebox cast member who becomes a candidate for a political party will have to step down from their involvement in Gogglebox.

“They have been excellent contributors to Gogglebox, and we are very grateful for all they have given to the show”.

Mum Carolyne revealed that she did not want to leave and found watching the series they were not involved in “too painful”.

However, in the 2015 election, Andy failed to secure the Hastings and Rye seat in Parliament and so the family were invited back to the show.

Andy then made the decision to step away from his political career so that the family could return to the show.

Sadly, Andy passed away last month. His devastated family today confirmed that they would not be returning for the upcoming series.

Linda, George and Pete had viewers in stitches

Pete and Linda joined the show with Linda’s son George in series two and were an instant hit with viewers at home.

Together they shot to fame however they swiftly exited the show in 2014 after George made the decision to sign up for rival Channel 4 show Celebrity Big Brother.

The family confirmed their departure on Twitter saying: “It is true that we won’t be on the next series of Gogglebox. We had a lovely time filming with them and wish the cast and crew lots of luck”.

Despite leaving Gogglebox, George actually became the centre of a love triangle in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

He grew close to The Hills star Stephanie Pratt – sister of famed Celebrity Big Brother villain Spencer Pratt – and the two shared a kiss. George even confessed that he was in love with Stephanie to the other housemates.

Their romance came to an end when Stephanie was evicted from the house. George wasn’t heartbroken for long however as he appeared to move on with Irish B*Witched singer Edele Lynch.

George cheekily snogged Edele before later kissing her in bed together.

He eventually finished in fourth place and was awkwardly reunited with Stephanie after being evicted from the house.

Following his stint in the Big Brother house, George and his family returned to the show in 2016. Linda and Pete have been key members of the Gogglebox family ever since with George making less appearances.

Following Pete’s tragic death to bowel cancer in June, the family confirmed they would not be returning for the new series.

Fellow cast member Julie Malone paid a touching tribute to the recently deceased stars of the show by dedicating an NTA award to Mary, Andy and Pete.
