Pet owners across East London have been urgently warned about toxic algae that poison dogs.
A concerned dog owner has opened up about how her dog was affected by blue-green algae.
On Facebook, the worried animal lover said that her dog went into the pond in Victoria Park in East London before suffering extremely strange symptoms.

“Our dog went in the water last week not too deep in, and on the way home she went very wobbly and unwell,” she wrote.
“The vet figured maybe she could have had a mild stroke and advised we monitor her, but upon realising the algae sign was now up we spoke to the vet today. She said it’s very likely it’s poisoning from the algae.”
The dog owner was told by the vet that algae can give dogs toxic shock and is a serious danger to some animals.
This is backed up by animal welfare charity Blue Cross, which has warned : “Blue-green algae can be toxic to dogs. Call your vet immediately if you suspect poisoning.
“Don’t let your dog drink from or swim in water containing blue-green algae […] Sadly, exposure to toxic blue-green algae is often fatal, and can also cause long term health problems in dogs that survive after drinking or swimming in algae-contaminated water.
“Some types of blue-green algae can kill a dog just 15 minutes to an hour after drinking contaminated water.”
Though many Facebook users were quick to send their condolences to the worried dog owner and wished the pooch a speedy recovery, others were not as sympathetic.
Many users said there are multiple signs in Victoria Park warning dog owners about the dangerous algae and urging them not to let their dogs swim in the water.
One user said: “I’m the sorry but simple answer. Signs are up, ‘Please do not let your dogs in the water’. They like water, hose them down.”

“That is not the only thing in the water likely to be harmful to dogs, and the dogs are a hazard to the wildlife.”
