Arsenal’s ‘next captain emerges’ as star given 30-goal target to earn new contract

Here is your Arsenal evening digest on Thursday, September 16.

Has Arsenal’s next captain emerged?

Gabriel Magalhaes made an excellent start to life in north London last season.

He was exceptional in his debut game for the club when he leaped and scored a goal from a corner against Fulham in the opening game of the 2020/2021 season.

This was further shown with his excellent display during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford last season, a performance which remains in the memory of Arsenal fans as they cling to the hope the Brazilian can recreate it.

In January 2019, with Unai Emery targeting a top-four finish but unable to sign anyone permanently, they instead opted to bring in Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona instead of agreeing to a loan deal with an option to buy at around £18 million for Nkunku.

But the Gunners also missed out during the summer window, when Nkunku joined RB Leipzig for a figure believed to be in the region of €13 million.
