Leo Varadkar’s partner has accused a theatre director of circulating an unflattering picture taken of the tanaiste at a pop festival to humiliate him. He suggested that it was cyberbullying.
Matthew Barrett, a cardiologist, said the photograph, widely shared on social media, was taken by Oonagh Murphy, a women’s rights and LGBTQI+ activist who is associate director of the Big House Theatre in north London.
He said it showed that people “celebrate” the violation of someone’s right to privacy and dignity.
“The individual who photographed the tanaiste does not have a right to violate this merely because she believed it was justified and consistent with her own beliefs,” Barrett wrote in a letter in yesterday’s Irish Times.
