Urgent warning for blue badge holders after disabled people scammed into giving bank details

A North West London Council has issued an urgent warning after reports of vulnerable disabled people being targeted by scammers impersonating officers.

Brent Council released the warning today (Friday, September 10) to all blue badge holders in the area after disabled residents were scammed into giving away their bank details.

A tweet put out by Brent Council’s official account said: “Scam alert: Disabled people in Brent are being targeted by someone impersonating a council officer.

“The scammer approaches blue badge drivers after they park their car asking them to verify their details by putting their bankcard into a machine and confirming their PIN number.”

The tweet confirmed that some of the most vulnerable residents in Brent have fallen victim to a heinous scam.

Locals on Twitter labelled the ploy “disgusting.”

Brent Council continued: “DO NOT share your card, PIN or bank details with anyone.

“A council or enforcement officer will never ask blue badge holders to verify their bankcard details to confirm parking.

“Please ensure your blue badge is visible on your car dashboard to use as a valid parking permit.

“If an individual claiming to be a council officer approaches you or a disabled driver, ask for their ID.
