‘Predator’ kidnapped woman and stole phone before raping her in dark dead-end road

An “opportunistic predator” kidnapped a woman away from her friends before raping her in a dark dead-end road.

Farhan Akoo, 30, also stole the victim’s mobile phone so “she had no way of contacting someone for help” prior to the attack on November 25, 2018.

He appeared at Inner London Crown Court on Friday (September 3) to be sentenced for rape, kidnap, kidnap with intent to commit sexual offences and three counts of sexual assault by penetration.

The court heard that, in the early hours of the morning, Akoo drove the victim away from her friends at speed.

While doing so, he also stole her phone to prevent her from contacting any of the friends or emergency services.

Akoo also “repeatedly assaulted the victim” while he drove her around London before eventually stopping the vehicle on an unlit dead-end road.

He then proceeded to sexually assault her.

Akoo, of Worcester Gardens, Cranbrook, Ilford, East London, was convicted following a trial at the same court in April earlier this year.

He was jailed for a total of six years and nine months on Friday.

Detective Inspector Anna Rice, from City of London Police’s Public Protection Unit, described the incident as “appalling”.

She added: “I’d like to commend the young victim who bravely came forward and reported these appalling crimes. Akoo is an opportunistic predator who took advantage of a vulnerable woman. Akoo led the woman away from her friends and then took away her phone, meaning that she had no way of contacting someone for help.
