Jesse Lingard sends West Ham message while away on England international duty

Jesse Lingard has sent a thank you message to West Ham following his loan spell at the club last season.

The 28-year-old is currently away on international duty with England but took the time to post a message of gratitude following a Hammers fan vote.

West Ham supporters in their thousands cast their votes for the ‘Best Individual Performance’ award and Lingard came top of the poll.

The England internationals performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers was the fan’s favourite, a game in which Lingard opened the scoring after just six minutes.

The attacker scored a superb solo effort, collecting the ball 10 yards inside his own half before he drove at the retreating backline, bating thee men in the process before firing past the onrushing goalkeeper.

Lingard was also heavily involved in West Ham’s second goal, producing a superb bit of skill in the build-up to Pablo Fornals’ strike. The former Hammer capped his night off with a sensational assist for Jarrod Bowen’s strike.

Lingard once again received the ball deep in his own half before this time beating five men with a run and putting an inch-perfect pass into Bowen’s stride.

The West Ham fans recognised Lingard’s exceptional display and the Manchester United man took to Instagram to express his appreciation with a simple “Thank you @west ham,” message.

Lingard’s form at West Ham saw him called up to Gareth Southgate’s England setup but at the last hurdle he was axed from the Euro 2020 squad.

The attacker has since been recalled by the Three Lions boss and struck twice as he guided England to a 4-0 win over Andorra.

Lingard celebrated at Wembley in style with a combination of his and new teammate Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark goal celebrations and Hammers assistant Stuart Pearce was thrilled for his former player.

“He certainly got his confidence back and his mojo back. Somewhere, I don’t know where it is, in the Romford area, so they are telling me,” Pearce joked on talkSPORT.

Pearce and West Ham boss David Moyes had made their interest in the Manchester United player rejoining the Hammers over the summer crystal clear but with no deal agreed upon the club moved onto other targets.

Nikola Vlasic was brought in for a fee in the region of £25.7 million and has since taken the No.11 shirt that Lingard wore with such aplomb for the Hammers.
