West London hospitals ban visitors after rise in Covid cases

6

A West London hospital has asked visitors to stay away after a rise in Covid cases in the area.

New information for people visiting Hillingdon Hospital in Uxbridge and Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood says that they are closed to visitors due to a “growing number of positive patients in hospital” and a high number of cases in the community.

Visitors will only be “considered” in exceptional circumstances, which include:

  • for a patient at end of life
  • one regular carer for a patient with additional needs, such as a patient with dementia
  • one parent/guardian for a child
  • one birth partner

The move has been made “in order to protect patients, staff and visitors.”

Visitors who are allowed to enter the hospital must follow additional measures.

These include not coming to the hospital if they are feeling unwell, including with cold or flu symptoms; sanitising their hands and putting on a new mask as soon as they enter a ward or unit; and following further measures requested by staff when visiting a patient with an infection.

Like most hospitals across the country, these Hillingdon hospitals were closed to visitors during the height of the pandemic but had reopened in recent months.

Cases are rising in Hillingdon borough, where the current case rate is 291.9 per 100,000 people.
