Tottenham midfielder Ndombele may be at point of no return

Kevin Phillips has claimed there may be “no way back” for Tanguy Ndombele at Tottenham after he tried to engineer an exit this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Sunderland and England striker said the 24-year-old is likely to “float about” before leaving in January.

This revealed on August 16th that the centre-midfielder told club chiefs he wanted to leave before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

However, a move did not materialise and it is understood Ndombele is now unhappy in north London.

As reported by the Standard (September 3rd), the France international has cherished the support of his ‘big brothers’ Moussa Sissoko and Serge Aurier since moving to England.

But both left Tottenham in the transfer window just gone.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if there is a way back for Ndombele at Spurs, Phillips said: “It’s a very difficult situation.

“He made it very clear that he wanted to leave the football club.

“Is he the sort of player who will now knuckle down and play? He has come back from criticism before but I think this is different. I cannot see a way back.

“It is difficult to win over the manager and the supporters when you have made it clear you want to leave.

“But at some point he may have to play depending on injuries and suspensions. He will have to be professional. It is as simple as that.

“I get the impression that he is not going to push himself to really perform though. I think he will float about until January and then try and force a move again.”
