ITV Long Lost Family: South London dad in tears after seeing his daughter after 58 years

The stories told on ITV’s Long Lost Family always have a tendency to tug at our heartstrings all the while making us appreciate our families more.

Tonight’s episode (August 31) is no exception as it features the story of the oldest searcher Roy David, 87, who is from Lewisham, South London and is on a quest to find his long lost daughter.

In emotional scenes, viewers will see Roy and his daughter Cheryl 64, finally reunited after a period of 58 years were the pair were in no contact whatsoever.

Roy was devastated that he’d been separated from his daughter

As a young lad, Roy was living in the Bronx, New York where he had met the love of his life Slyvie (Cheryl’s mother).

Soon after their first meeting, the couple married and Slyvie had given birth to Cheryl and in order to support his new family- Roy took on a job oversees.

However, long period of not seeing his family, brought tensions with his family and Roy was eventually kicked out of the home by his mother in law who he was living with at the time along with his wife and daughter.

In the epsiode, Roy recalls how he regrets the decision he made back then and wished he stuck by his family saying: “As a young man, I had a lot of pride- I gave up too easily”

Although, he would come back to visit often after this had happened, one day Roy’s worst nightmare came to life when the family eventually moved out and disappeared.

With no other choice, he decided to move on with his life and move to England, where he settled down and re-married.

Thankfully, Roy’s was given the good news that Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell were able to locate his daughter.

The tracked Cheryl down, who was living in New York but far from their childhood home- and she agreed to meet her father.

Cheryl was accompanied by her daughter, Derisse, 47 for the truly magic moment and they three of them were able connect.

Long Lost Family episode 9 airs tonight on ITV at 9pm.
