Dagenham and A13 traffic: Motorcyclist rushed to hospital following serious hit and run crash that completely shut Lodge Avenue – recap

A motorcyclist was rushed to hospital following a serious hit and run crash that completely shut a road in Essex this morning.

Lodge Avenue in Dagenham, Greater London was shut in both directions from Woodward Road to Lodge Avenue roundabout following the major crash involving a car and a motorcyclist.

The crash happened at around 10am on Wednesday (September 1). It is believed that the car involved had left the scene.

The motorcyclist was left with non-life-threatening injuries following the crash.

A Barking and Dagenham Council spokesperson said at the time of the crash: “Following a serious road traffic accident, Lodge Avenue is currently closed in both directions from Woodward Road to Lodge Avenue roundabout.

“Please avoid the area for now and use alternative routes. We’ll keep you updated.”

Emergency services including the Metropolitan Police Service and London Ambulance Service were in attendance dealing with the incident.

An air ambulance has also been spotted in the area.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “Police were called at approximately 8.30am on Wednesday, September 1 to reports of a collision between a motorbike and a car on Lodge Avenue, Dagenham.

“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, London Air Ambulance and London Fire Brigade. The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, sustained injuries to his head and legs.

“He has been taken to hospital, where he remains, and his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

“A car believed to have been involved in the incident had left the scene.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 8.34am today (September 1) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle on Maplestead Road, Dagenham.

“We sent an ambulance crew and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“A man was treated at the scene and taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

The road closure was lifted around 6 hours after the incident first took place to enable accident investigators to conduct their enquiries.
