Alex Kral close to being confirmed as West Ham’s second deadline day signing

Alex Kral is on the verge of becoming West Ham’s second deadline day signing following the arrival of Nikola Vlasic to the London Stadium.

The deal for Kral is likely to be on a season-long loan with the 23-year-old set to link up with the Hammers following his international duty with the Czech Republic.

Kral has been monitored by David Moyes for some time, with the Hammers boss even singling out the midfielder as one of his ‘players to watch’ during Euro 2020. understands that following a loan move, West Ham have the option of a permanent transfer that will cost £12million with add-ons potentially taking the figure as high as £17m.

Kral will be welcomed to the Hammers by two familiar faces with international teammates Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal both at the club.

The midfielder has 22 international caps to his name and European experience with both Slavia Prague and Spartak Moscow.

Kral will offer Moyes extra options in central midfield where he will be competing with Soucek, Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Manuel Lanzini for game time. understands the Czech international’s arrival is set to result in Conor Coventry departing the Hammers on loan to Peterborough for the remainder of the season.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has been an unused substitute for all of the Hammers’ Premier League games this season but a move away from the club is set to be announced in order for him to gain regular first-team football.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s league opening, Moyes addressed Coventry’s immediate future.

“He has started [with the first-team] quite well Conor, and I have enjoyed having him,” the manager said.

“At the moment I have got a couple of very good midfield players in Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek. I have Mark Noble and Manuel Lanzini who can play in those roles as well so I do have players who could play in those roles as well but if we added to it, it might give Conor a chance to get some more games.”
