Two people rescued from burning hotel in Battersea as 100 firefighters called to huge fire

Firefighters scrambled to a building in Battersea last night after a fire engulfed part of a hotel.

A total of 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to the building on Lombard Road shortly after 11.22pm where they found that 100 people had already made it out.

But the firefighters were forced to rescue two people from the second floor of the building who had been trapped and required retrieval with a ladder.

Two people were taken to hospital and two further people were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

Most of a hotel room on the second floor was damaged by fire and smoke logging affected the upper floors of the building.

The fire was under control by 1:25am but the cause remains under investigation.

One witness shared a video showing people presumably staying in the hotel being evacuated and gathering on the street last night.

Station Commander Sacha Clement, who was at the scene, said: “Firefighters worked incredibly hard to bring the fire under control and stop the fire from spreading further.

“Firefighters rescued a man from the second floor of the building via a ladder and a woman was rescued by crews wearing breathing apparatus via an internal staircase using a fire escape hood.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers also gave vital fire survival guidance to a person inside the building on how to stay safe before firefighters arrived.”
