Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged Spurs to sign Houssem Aouar ahead of Arsenal before the end of the transfer window.
With the August 31 deadline fast-approaching, both Spurs and the Gunners are still looking in the market for additional signings over the next two days.
The north London sides have had entirely different starts to the new Premier League season with Tottenham currently leading the pack following three consecutive 1-0 victories, whilst Arsenal sit bottom of the table after losing all of their openers – including a 5-0 humiliation to Manchester City on Saturday.
Although Spurs are in great form on the pitch, Robinson thinks that Nuno Espirito Santo could improve his squad even more with the signing of Aouar.
The acquisition would make sense for both sides, especially with reports that the Ligue 1 outfit would be willing to let Aouar leave on a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer, something that would help Tottenham and Arsenal financially.
“When you look at the current market, you would probably say that’s a bargain. That type of price for that type of player is not a risk,” Robinson told Football Insider.
“Tottenham would be getting a top-quality player and a player of similar quality would probably cost £50million-60million.
“If Spurs could get Aouar for less than £25million it would be good business.”
The Frenchman has two years left on his contract at Lyon but has been pushing for a move to the Premier League for a while now, and even came close to signing for the Gunners at the back end of last summer’s transfer window, although a deal never materialised.
There isn’t much time left for either club to secure a deal, but there is a possibility that Aouar could still make a move to the Premier League this season.
