The impact Kylian Mbappe’s £145m transfer to Real Madrid will have on Chelsea and Spurs’ plans

Real Madrid have reportedly made a third offer – said to be in the region of €170million (£145million) to Paris Saint-Germain – for Kylian Mbappe.

Los Blancos are trying to take advantage of the France international’s contract situation at the Parc des Princes, with less than 12 months remaining on his current deal.

Mbappe is well renowned as one of football’s brightest talents and has been tipped to one day become the best player in the world.

Real Madrid are determined to bring him in before the transfer window closes next week and their move for Mbappe could have an impact on both Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Spanish club have been linked with moves for both Erling Haaland and Harry Kane this summer.

Madrid are said to be huge admirers of Haaland, who was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea before they secured the signing of Romelu Lukaku recently, and the Blues could reignite their interest next summer.

The Borussia Dortmund striker supposedly has a £64million release clause in his contract with the German club that only becomes active next summer.

However, if Madrid can secure the big-money signing of Mbappe, then it may cool their interest in Haaland somewhat.

Likewise with Kane. The 28-year-old Spurs striker recently announced he’d be staying at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for this season at least.

The England captain is said to be of interest to Real Madrid, as well as Manchester City and Manchester United, but the former of the trio could pull out of the race for the Tottenham star should they complete the signing of Mbappe.

PSG sporting director Leonardo recently confirmed that Mbappe did want to leave the French capital this summer.

Leonardo told RMC : “Mbappe would like to leave, this seems clear to me. If Real Madrid makes an offer, this seems clear to me. Me, I give a position, which I think is clear for everyone.

“We cannot change our plans in the final week of the window. If he is set on leaving, we will not hold him back, but it will be our terms.”

The Brazilian then added: “I can’t confirm the figures but it is around that. It’s less than we paid. But it’s especially the way Madrid have done it that displeases us.

“Real have behaved like this for two years. It is wrong, illegal even as they have contacted the player. It is unacceptable for us, because it is not right.”
