Paolo Di Canio has sent his congratulations to Michail Antonio after the striker broke the Italians Premier League goalscoring record at West ham.
Antonio’s first goal against Leicester made him the Hammers outright leading Premier League goalscoring with 48 before adding a 49th to his tally to seal a 4-1 win over the Foxes.
The striker celebrated his achievement in style recreating a scene from Dirty Dancing with a cardboard cutout of himself, lifting it high in the air before giving it a twirl and a kiss, much to the amusement of everyone present at the London Stadium.
Di Canio is thrilled for Antonio and expressed his delight on Sky Italia : “I’m happy because Antonio is a fantastic guy, a great professional and a very important player.

“So, congratulations, I am happy for him. I hope he can score even more goals because he is really strong..
“He has extraordinary physical skills, atypical I would say. There isn’t another centre-forward like him in the world. Which doesn’t mean he is the best one. He is not just a classic, static centre-forward who waits to get the ball.
“He sacrifices himself for the team and helps his teammates, running behind his opponents. He is like a truck, so difficult to move.”

Di Canio’s admiration for Antonio stretches back many years with the Italian admitting to having an interest in the striker a decade ago.
“I wanted to sign him in 2011 when I was coaching Swindon Town and he was at Colchester United,” Di Canio said.
“At that moment of his career, he was playing as a winger and during the years, he has become a pure striker. Really well done.”
Antonio was overjoyed to break Di Canio’s record but has warned anyone wanting to beat this own mark he is nowhere near done yet.
“I don’t just want to beat the record by one or two,” he told Sky Sports Monday Night Football. “I want to beat it by loads so the next person trying to get up there isn’t going to beat me.

“I was trying to make history and in the first half, it affected me. I beat the record and now I’m beating it by two. It sounds beautiful to be called West Ham’s top Premier League scorer. Hopefully, I can beat it by, maybe, 20.
“The fans enjoyed it, we enjoyed it, it was amazing. There is nothing better than scoring and hearing the roar from the fans.
“It would have been so nice to break it with a goal from outside the box. I’ve broken it though in front of the fans — amazing.”
