Armed police closed the North Circular Road to deal with a “kidnap” incident earlier this morning (Tuesday, August 24)
The officers shut the North Circular flyover near Ilford, Greater London, causing long traffic queues throughout the morning.
Three men were arrested on suspicion of kidnap, and were taken to a police station in East London where they remain in custody.

The flyover was closed since 5.30am and the road closure caused severe delays and congestion in the surrounding areas including on the A12, with queuing traffic stretching back to Chigwell.
The road re-opened at around 7.25am.
Regarding the incident, a Met Police spokesperson said: “At approximately 05:00hrs on Tuesday, 24 August, police made a proactive vehicle stop at the A406 Flyover in Redbridge.

“The stop was conducted by armed officers from the Met and supported by colleagues from Essex Police.
“Three men – aged between 19 and 23 – have arrested at the scene on suspicion of kidnap.
“All three men were taken to a police station in east London where they remain. Enquiries are ongoing.”
