Zoom crashed worldwide throwing work meetings and school classes into chaos earlier today.

The issues started at around 8am this morning, according to the website Downdetector.

People encountered problems with joining and starting video meetings on the platform.

Others also struggled to log in, while students were blocked from joining lectures and classes.

Zoom apologised for the outages and later confirmed that the issues had been fixed shortly after 10am.

People complained about the platform failing in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton and elsewhere in the UK, according to a map of reports on Downdetector.

One social media user said they even missed an interview because of Zoom crashing.

Zoom tweeted: “We are aware of a subset of customers experiencing errors while joining a live meeting.

“We are currently investigating and will provide updates as we have them. Apologies for any inconvenience.”

In a later tweet, posted at 10.14am, the firm said: “We have resolved the issue causing a subset of customers to experience errors while joining a live meeting. We will continue to monitor and provide updates as we have them. Thanks for your patience.”

It comes after the video conferencing platform crashed on almost the exact same date last year.
