London Stansted and Southend Airport: Latest travel advice for France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Cyprus

This disappointing thing we called summer has got us all desperate to fly out in search of warmer pastures.

And that’s pretty fair, as after all, we all need to let off some steam.

But should you go abroad this year, you’ll need to know what seems like the ever-changing list of Covid rules, reports MyLondon.

If you haven’t been double jabbed and you visit an amber country, you’re facing a 10-day self-isolation on your return – and you have to pay for three Covid tests.

While fully vaccinated travellers visiting amber countries still need to pay for two tests, but do not need to quarantine.

So whether you’re double-jabbed or not, it’s worth knowing the rules before booking anything. Here is the up-to-date Foreign Office travel advice for the most popular European destinations amongst Brits.

France

France recently moved from the England’s amber plus list to the amber list, which means restrictions around self-isolating on return only apply to those who haven’t received both jabs.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you will need to have an essential reason to travel from France to a country on France’s amber list.

Travellers who are not fully vaccinated will need to self-isolate for seven days after arrival, then take another PCR test following this period of self-isolation.

They also have to complete an International Travel Certificate, a sworn statement saying they are not suffering from any symptoms of the virus and haven’t been in contact with a positive person and must then take a Covid test within 24 hours of departure.

Whereas travellers who are fully jabbed do not need an essential reason and don’t need to self isolate on arrival. They do however have to complete the same sworn statement and proof of vaccination status.

Spain

The Spanish government requires all arrivals to Spain from the UK to present on entry a pre-travel declaration form and one of the following: a negative Covid-19 test; or proof of vaccination.

All passengers (including children under 12 years old) travelling by air or sea must complete and sign an online Health Control Form no more than 48 hours prior to travel.

Portugal

Portugal is currently on the amber list, including the Azores. However, Madeira, an autonomous island region of Portugal, is on the green list.

Rules around testing only apply to those who aren’t fully vaccinated.

Tests have to be done either 72 or 48 hours before travel depending on which one you take.

Italy

The FCDO no longer advises against all but essential travel to Italy, based on the current assessment of Covid-19 risks.

Until August 30, travellers who have been in the UK, in the previous 14 days, must present a negative molecular or antigen test taken in the 48 hours preceding entry into Italy.

They must also self-isolate for five days, at the end of which they must take a rapid antigenic or molecular swab test for Covid-19 and test negative for release.

Children under the age of six, from the UK, do not need to test but are not exempt from self-isolation.

They must also complete an online digital form.

Greece

As Greece and the Greek islands are on the UK’s amber list, travellers have to complete a passenger locator form before arriving.

They must also prove one of the following three things, that they have:

  • a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before travel

  • a negative rapid antigen test they have taken within 48 hours before travel

  • proof of full vaccination status

Cyprus

Despite Cyprus being on the UK’s amber list, the UK is on Cyprus’ red list and has been since July 8.

This means that travellers with proof of two Covid vaccinations are not required to take a PCR test before departure or on arrival. You do still need to obtain a Cyprus flight pass.

Passengers coming from the UK without proof of two Covid-19 vaccinations must undergo a PCR test within 72 hours prior to departure and provide proof of a negative result.

They must then undergo another PCR test upon arrival at Larnaca or Paphos airports.

Tests have to be paid for by the passenger.
