Armed police have descended on an estate in North London where four people were injured in a barbecue shooting at the weekend.

Today officers carrying guns were seen at Clarence Gardens on the Regent’s Park Estate, the Camden New Journal reports.

A 73-year-old pensioner was among three women shot by a drive-by gunman who fired several rounds into a BBQ party on Saturday.

A man was also wounded in the incident, police confirmed in the aftermath.

It is thought the victims were not intended targets in the shootings, but were injured in the crossfire at around 10.10pm.

A Met Police spokeswoman told The Mirror: “The police activity relates to the investigation into the shooting in Camden on Saturday evening.”

She did not provide any further details.

Witnesses saw a car speed through Clarence Gardens in Camden before someone in the vehicle fired “five or six” shots through the window from an automatic weapon.

The elderly woman is said to have been hit by a stray bullet after asking neighbours to turn down their music.

One resident told The Sun they heard several shots that “sounded like fireworks” before “lots of screaming” broke out.

“All hell broke loose, there were people running in every direction”, they said.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said in a statement at the weekend: “Police were called shortly before 10.10pm on Saturday, 14 August to reports of gunshots heard in the vicinity of Clarence Gardens, NW1.

“Two women were treated at the scene for suspected gunshot injuries before being taken to hospital.

“A man and a female later self-presented at hospital with suspected gunshot wounds. We await an update on the condition of all four.

“A crime scene is in place and officers remain in the area. Enquiries continue.”
