A huge new development could be coming to Dagenham – featuring thousands of new homes, public parks and plazas.
The planned Dagenham Green development could be built on the site of the former Ford stamping plant.
The plans include over 3,500 new homes – more than 1,500 of which would be affordable flats.
Developers Peabody will hold a public meeting to discuss the plans on August 19.
Peabody said that the homes would come “in a variety of brick-built styles and designs, including apartments, maisonettes and houses”.
The development would also include a new public park, a number of smaller ‘pocket parks,’ public plazas, and pedestrian and cycle-friendly streets.

Residents in and around Dagenham Green will also have access to a new secondary school, cafes, restaurants, and a leisure centre.
Up to 4,400 square metres of commercial space will also be available.
Consultation on the proposed scheme is happening now, but the developers said that early feedback from residents, particularly young people, could shape the development in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
An in-person consultation on August 19 will allow residents to voice their opinions and concerns about the development.
It will take place on the bridge beside Dagenham Heathway station between 10am and 2pm.
Peter Cross, the project director for Dagenham at Peabody, said that he saw the scheme as a positive proposal for the area.
He said: “We’re excited to be working in Dagenham, bringing this former industrial site back to life as an exciting new place for residents and the wider community called Dagenham Green, which Peabody will manage into the future.
“Dagenham Green’s new central park, play areas, proposed community facilities and cafes/restaurants will provide a local meeting point for everyone to use with sustainability considered throughout.
“We hope the new school will accommodate young people from the wider area as well as newer residents.
“As well as significant numbers of much needed new homes, we want to help create a fantastic place that people will enjoy and want to spend time.
