Victoria bus crash: Big Issue seller describes horrific moment people rushed to help victims trapped under buses

A big issue seller has described the terrifying moment two buses crashed in Victoria Station this morning (August 10) and thanked the actions of first responders who came to the stricken commuters aid.

Following the horrific crash, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed that one woman in her 30s has died with two other pedestrians in hospital.

Jacob Davidson, 36, had just arrived at the station to start work when the incident happened.

A cordon has been erected around the scene

He told MyLondon that it happened in a flash and shocked him as he had assumed the crash wasn’t very serious.

He explained: “There was a loud bang and I looked up and saw that two 507 buses had crashed into each other.

“Initially I didn’t really think much of it to be fair, you see that stuff in London every day. It was only when the cab drivers in front ran over to help.

“They were crouching down and looking underneath the bus. I looked over the railing and saw that there was a guy trapped under the bus.

“He was facing inwards underneath it, he was quite tall, about 6 foot.

“There was a female civilian being tended to by about three other civilians.

“I can’t for the life of me fathom how the whole front of that bus is caved in.

“I didn’t hear any screaming.

A police cordon remains in place at the station while emergency service units carry out their enquiries.

Terminus Place remains closed

Transport for London has said they are ‘extremely saddened’ by the crash and will be investigating the incident.

Andy Byford, TfL’s Commissioner, said: “We are extremely saddened that a woman has tragically died after a collision with a bus and our thoughts are with her family and friends.

“We are thinking of everyone affected by this incident and will support everyone however we can.

“We are working urgently with the operator of the two buses, Go Ahead London, and the police to investigate what happened.”
