Sheffield United make transfer decision that could affect Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale pursuit

Arsenal’s pursuit of Aaron Ramsdale has potentially taken a fresh twist as Sheffield United make an approach to sign a new goalkeeper.

The Gunners have already made three summer signings, with Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokongo and Nuno Tavares all joining the club, but they still want to add their ranks before deadline day.

After being linked with a move for Ramsdale all summer, it looked like Arsenal were going to pull out of a deal to sign the England international as the fee seemed to be a major stepping stone between the two clubs.

However, Football Italia reported that the Blades have made an enquiry to bring Roma shot-stopper Robin Olsen in on loan after he spent last season at Everton.

The 31-year-old is firmly out of Jose Mourinho’s plans ahead of their Serie A campaign and can leave the Italian capital this month, with the Blades looking the most likely to capture his signature.

Roma seem open to the idea, but the Sweden ‘keeper must decide whether to accept or wait to join a top division side as Lille, OGC Nice and Stade Rennais have all shown interest.

However, this potential move could mean that Ramsdale is on the way out of Bramall Lane as he has previously expressed his desire to remain in the Premier League following United’s relegation to the second tier.

Should the 23-year-old join the Gunners, he is likely to play in the Carabao Cup first as Arsenal get set to begin that competition against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday 25 August.

The transfer window is in full swing and things are beginning to ramp up with Edu and Mikel Arteta’s dealings at the Emirates.

As Ramsdale didn’t feature in the Blades’ win over Carlisle last week, he would be eligible to play for Arsenal as he isn’t cup-tied.

The deal is reportedly still a long way off but Olsen’s switch to South Yorkshire could be a sign that Ramsdale will leave as Arsenal look to strengthen their squad in that area.

Ramsdale produced some superb saves to keep his first clean sheet of the season in the Blades’ 0-0 draw at Swansea on Saturday, which, no doubt must’ve impressed potential suitors.

Martin Odegaard has also been heavily linked to re-join and Lautaro Martinez continues to be rumoured with switch to north London as deadline day edges ever closer.
