London crime: Newham gang members who stabbed NHS worker to death exposed by ‘childish doodles’ of the murder

Four Newham gang members who brutally stabbed an innocent NHS worker to death were found guilty today after their ‘childish doodles’ exposed them as the killers.

Vegnei Colubali, 23, David Ture, 19, Muhammad Jalloh, 19, and a 17 year-old boy who cannot be named, were convicted of the murder from April last year after a six-and-a-half week long trial.

The victim of the random ‘frenzied’ attack was 24-year-old NHS worker David Gomoh, who was attacked as he spoke to his girlfriend on the phone. David wasn’t involved with any gangs or gang-related activity himself.

The killers gave themselves away after 19-year-old David’s ‘childish’ drawings were discovered in his bedroom drawer, which detectives described as a ‘picturebook story’ of the murder.

The doodles showed the four men holding knives and cigarettes with a car

The childlike doodles showed cartoon depictions of the four men at East London’s Church Street brandishing weapons and smoking cigarettes.

Vegnei was drawn with an Armani bag, which he was later spotted wearing on CCTV at the scene of the crime.

A second drawing titled ‘Moments later…’ showed three men escaping in a car after the murder, with speech bubbles saying ‘cmon 15th gang’, and ‘lets skrill it on Threemasons’.

The four men set out on the evening of 26 April 2020 at the start of lockdown brandishing knives with a plan to kill, the jury heard.

The gang members drove a stolen car to their rival gang territory in South Newham, East London, apparently known as a ‘ride out to the opp block’.

Each of them turned their phones off and brought a change of clothes in preparation for the sinister attack.

David, who worked for the NHS throughout lockdown, had just left his house and was on the phone to his girlfriend when the killers spotted him walking alone.

Before he was able to get away, three of the four men approached him with knives on Freemasons Road, East London.

In a brutal and frenzied attack, they stabbed the victim ten times, leaving him with no chance of survival.

He managed to stagger home but died soon after with ‘catastrophic’ injuries in front of his desperate family.

DNA evidence also found the victim’s blood on some sunglasses left in the stolen car, which belonged to its female owner.

CPS Lawyer Louise Attrill said: “This case has highlighted a very stark reality of the tragedy that ensues from so called postcode killings and gang rivalries.

“These individuals planned to kill anyone they came across who they believed was from the opposing gang.”

She added: “Our thoughts remain very much with them at this time and, while nothing can bring David back, we hope these convictions provide some comfort to them.”

Prosecutor Oliver Glasgow QC said: “What had David Gomoh done to deserve such a fate? He had the misfortune to live in an area of London that is frequented by rival gangs.”

All four men will be sentenced for murder on Friday, September 12, along with a charge for an earlier failed attack on a man who got away.
