Girl, 15, dies in hospital after being injured at go-karting centre in Barking

A 15-year-old girl has sadly died in hospital four days after she hurt herself whilst go-karting in Barking.

The girl was taken to hospital after she was injured at Capital Karts in the East London district last Friday (August 6).

Police and the London Ambulance Service responded after reports of an injured teenager at a commercial premises, reports the Mirror.

The child was taken to an East London hospital where she was pronounced dead on Tuesday (August 10), the Metropolitan Police said.

The force added that her family had been informed and officers were “liaising with health and safety officials from the local council”.

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said it was called to reports of an incident at Rippleside Commercial Estate at 2.23pm on Friday.

The service added: “We sent a number of resources including an ambulance, medics in response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer.

“We also dispatched London’s air ambulance.

“We treated a person at the scene before taking them to a London major trauma centre.”

Police said officers’ inquiries are continuing.

Capital Karts has a 1,050metre track and 20 ‘challenging’ corners, according to its site.

Karts are able to reach speeds of up to 45mph on its 80metre main straight, the venue says.

My London asked police if the girl was injured in a crash, but the force would not confirm how the girl came to be injured.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly after 3pm on Friday, August 6 to reports of an injured teenager at commercial premises on Ripple Road in Barking.

“Officers and London’s Air Ambulance attended.

“The 15-year-old girl was taken to an East London hospital where she was pronounced dead on Tuesday, August 10.

“Her family have been informed.

“Officers are liaising with health and safety officials from the local council.

“Enquiries continue.”
