Secret London bus ticket that means you can travel 110 miles for just £9 a day

This summer, you might be considering a staycation.

If you’re looking for a few cheap and cheerful ways of exploring the countryside just south of London, you might want to consider this too.

A £9 bus ticket which is available on several bus routes starting in South London or on the London boundary enables you to travel hundreds of miles all the way to the coast on just one ticket.

From Kingston, you could make an epic 110 mile, five bus journey to Hastings via Guildford, Horsham, Brighton and Eastbourne.

Those looking for a simpler escape can use the ticket to get to the natural gems of the South Downs National Park, Wisley Gardens, the Kent Weald or Winkworth Arboretum in no more than two buses from London.

The ticket, called a ‘Discovery ticket’ can be used on most bus routes in Kent, Medway, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and East Hampshire.

It cannot be used on Transport for London (TfL) bus services though meaning that if you’re coming from another part of South London, you’ll have to use your Oyster card instead until you get on one of the bus routes listed below.

The ticket lasts the whole day and costs £9 for an adult, £7.50 for a child or £17.50 for a family of up to 5 people including 2 adults meaning it can often be cheaper than the train or petrol costs for a car.
