Edu’s plan to beat Tottenham to Lautaro Martinez transfer as Arsenal eye Inter star

Edu is ready to beat north London rivals Tottenham in the race to sign Lautaro Martinez by offering the Argentinean international a more lucrative package to join the Gunners this summer.

Martinez, 23, was subject of a recent £60million bid from Spurs that was initially accepted by Inter Milan.

But as Tottenham correspondent for football.london Alasdair Gold clarified after the initial news broke, this bid came before fellow London club Chelsea agreed a whopping £97.5million deal for Serie A MVP winner Romelu Lukaku.

It has been reported in Italy that Inter are not keen on letting two of their best players leave in the same transfer window, but they may be left with no choice as their financial situation could force them to let go of the Argentine.

This has alerted Edu and co. as they plan to defeat their great north London rivals in the battle to bring Martinez to England this summer.

Eurosport state that the Gunners are ready to more than triple the 23-year-old’s current wage that he is earning in Italy.

The piece goes on to say that Arsenal are yet to make Inter a formal offer for Martinez but are very interested in signing the £81,000-per-week forward.

The red side of north London have also indicated they would more than triple his wage to £275,000-per-week, having discussed personal terms.

With primary target Tammy Abraham edging closer to joining Jose Mourinho in Serie A at Roma, Mikel Arteta’s side have now reignited their initial interest in the Copa America winner.

However, the London duo may be left disappointed after his agent seemingly ruled out a move for his client this summer in a recent interview.

“Lautaro is an Inter player and is happy in Italy. The renewal? Lautaro is from Inter, he will never enter into conflict with the club. Never, this is reality,” Alejandro Camano told FCInter1908.

He then reaffirmed this stance, stating that the Argentina international would be staying with Simone Inzaghi’s side next term.

“Lautaro Martinez is happy at Inter and in Italy. His decision is to stay. The relationship with Inter is perfect. Lautaro Martinez is calm. Yes, it is true that there were offers, but today he is fine and we will sit down to talk about the future.”

In spite of these comments from Camano, both Arsenal and Tottenham will be keen to complete a transfer swoop this term for a striker who notched an impressive 17 goals and six assists in the 2020/21 Serie A campaign.
