Years of campaigning to save their businesses appear to have ended in victory for traders at a covered market in north London after a developer walked away from plans to demolish it.

Stall owners at Latin Village in Tottenham have been told that Grainger’s contract to redevelop the site has ended and that the company is not seeking to renew it.

“Everything just changed in a matter of days. I am over the moon,” said Vicky Álvarez , 50, a former refugee from Colombia who began selling imported silver jewellery and jeans at the market above the Seven Sisters London Underground station in 2002.
