Travellers descend on Kew Green AGAIN as another 21 caravan camp settles on scenic West London parkland in full view of £2 million homes and council say they have started eviction proceedings

Travellers have descended on Kew Green once again as a caravan camp is set up on the scenic West London parkland.

The group comprising of around 21 caravans arrived on Wednesday night to occupy the space in full view of £2 million homes in the capital.

Richmond Council has said the camp ‘were not willing to leave or cooperate with a welfare assessment’ and added that it has now it commenced the legal process that will require the travellers to leave.

Richmond Council said that it will repair any damage and remove any waste left on the Green when the travellers leave. 

Councillor Julia Neden-Watts, Chair of the Environment, Sustainability, Culture and Sports Committee, said: ‘A group of travellers has arrived in Kew. [On Thursday], Council officers have started the legal action required to expedite their departure. 

‘Due to a recent court ruling, this process will not be as fast as residents would like and I know that they will be concerned, but we have to work within the law.

‘As soon as the travellers leave, we will inspect the area and ensure that any damage is repaired, and waste removed. Our Park Guard officers, along with the Police, will be monitoring the site closely until the group depart.’

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police, when asked about the force’s involvement, told MailOnline it was a ‘local authority matter’.

It comes just months after a group of 12 caravans voluntarily moved off Kew Green in June – but the council confirmed this was not the same group.
