London police responded around 5 a.m. to reports of bullets striking the Jack Campbell Variety store at Gladman Avenue and West Street in the city’s Southcrest neighbourhood, where investigators found evidence a gun had been fired, police said.

One bullet appeared to have gone through the store’s front window and a lottery terminal inside. Duct tape covered the holes.

The driver’s side window of a U-Haul truck parked in the lot was shattered and broken glass littered the vehicle’s interior.

A woman working at the store declined to comment, saying drawing attention to the incident would be bad for her family’s business.

Store surveillance footage has been turned over to police, she said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The shooting is the 17th case of gunfire in London this year – up from 14 in all of 2020 – and the second in the last week.

In response to growing gun violence, London police created a task force in March, drawing on investigators, crime analysts and front-line officers to focus on gun violence and the prevalence of firearms.
