Over 100 patients in East London hospital trust with coronavirus as cases fall

Over 100 patients have coronavirus in hospitals run by Barts Health NHS Trust, according to new figures.

On August 5, 128 patients had tested positive for coronavirus, seven of which had been diagnosed in the previous 24 hours.

The trust stated on its website that 35 coronavirus patients were being treated in critical care beds or with enhanced levels of oxygen.

The figures include all hospitals run by Barts Health which are: St Bartholmew’s Hospital, Newham Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, and The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

Barts Health also added that as of 5pm on August 4, 1,856 patients had died with coronavirus in its hospitals.

And 16,349 coronavirus patients had recovered and been discharged from Barts Health hospitals in the same time frame.

Newham Council reported that there were 41,421 cases in the borough by the end of July, with a slight drop in the number of weekly cases after a steady increase over the last two months.
