Fire breaks out at south London site

A fire broke out at a construction site in Elephant & Castle, south London, on Friday morning.

The London Fire Brigade responded to the blaze at 11:44am on Deacon Street in Elephant & Castle. Four engines attended the fire, which was under control by 12:15pm. The first floor of the building under construction was damaged and one man was treated for injuries at the scene.

Lendlease is undertaking a major regeneration project in Elephant & Castle called Elephant Park, which encompasses Deacon Street. Eyewitnesses reported the fire as being on Sayer Street, which connects to Deacon Street, where the developer and contractor is delivering retail and restaurant units.

The firm has been contacted for comment.
