How Rio Ferdinand and Jame Carragher reacted to Harry Kane’s Tottenham absence

Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand have disagreed on Harry Kane’s controversial decision to miss pre-season training at Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane was due to return to Hotspur Way on Monday morning as expected, but he was missing ahead of a proposed Covid-19 and blood test which was required ahead of joining in with pre-season training.

It is well known that the 28-year-old would be open for a move away from north London this summer in search of winning trophies – something that has evaded the striker throughout his career so far.

Despite his willingness to move on, coupled with various reports suggesting City have tabled a big-money offer for the Tottenham striker, football.london understands that the north London club are determined to keep hold of the England captain beyond the end of August.

With tensions rising in this transfer saga, many former players have already had their say on social media and on TV about their opinion on how they believe Kane is going about ‘forcing a move’.

So much so, that former England duo Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher have had a disagreement on Twitter in the approach they believe is correct when it comes to Kane’s actions.

Here is the full back and forth between Ferdinand and Carragher about Kane on Twitter.

RF: And I’m not saying that @HKane and his tactics to leave are wrong (if we are to believe what’s being said). Harry wants trophies and he ain’t getting any younger.

JC: I disagree, it is wrong not to turn up for training. We all know he wants to go & can totally understand why. But Harry should not ruin his name or relationship with the supporters who idolise him just to get the move. Spurs will always be HIS club.

RF: Ruin his name for wanting to go and win the league?? He has given his all for that club. when the dust settles they will remember him in the positive way his time there will deserve.

JC: Not for wanting to win the league, for how he goes about leaving the club. At least the clubs that have your players know how they’ll go about it when you want them out!!

Carragher’s side of the argument is one shared by former Spurs defender Ramon Vega, who also believes that Kane is going about things in the wrong way.

He told Sky Sports News: “He’s on a legal contract with Tottenham Hotspur, so if he doesn’t turn up today then he’s starting some legal consequences for not turning up to the training ground.

“And he’s disrespecting his teammates as well by the way. Whether he wants to leave or not, I think this is the key part.

“And if Tottenham want to do the business then, of course, the earlier the better but if it’s not around the £200million pounds mark then there is no conversation to be discussed with any club in the UK.

“So from that point of view, I think the quicker a decision is made, the better for all the parties involved and most importantly the club is the number one and not the players.”

Kane currently has three years left on his current deal in N17.
