Tottenham handed big boost in Cristian Romero transfer race as Barcelona make major decision

Tottenham have been handed a major boost in the race for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero with reports suggesting that Barcelona had yet to table a bid.

It was previously suggested that the Catalan giants were eyeing a move for the Argentine defender as they attempt to bolster their defensive options ahead of next season.

The news certainly gave Spurs and transfer chief Fabio Paratici more to think about in his effort to bring Romero to north London.

football.london understands that advanced talks regarding his arrival had already taken place, with there being growing confidence that the 23-year-old would become a Spurs player sooner rather than later.

However, any worries that may have developed with Barcelona’s presence have quickly been allayed.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham remain the club leading the race for the defender with personal terms on a switch having already been agreed between the club and the player.

In even better news, it is also suggested that the Catalan giants are yet to lodge an official bid for Romero, whether that be verbal or written, as they are seemingly targeting alternative names – although that is not too much of a surprise considering the Spanish outfit’s troubling financial situation at the current time.

That fact then will surely give Spurs even more confidence then of getting a deal done and making Romero the second arrival from Atalanta at the club this summer alone.

Pierluigi Gollini became Spurs’ first signing of the summer as he was confirmed to have penned a loan deal in north London.
