Sixteen-year-old girl appears in court charged with attempted murder at Bute Park

A 16-year-old girl has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a man suffered life-threatening injuries in Bute Park in Cardiff.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested in the Creigiau area of Cardiff on the evening of Monday, July 26 and remanded in custody and appeared at Cardiff Youth Court on Wednesday, July 28.

A 54-year-old man remains in a life-threatening condition at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, following the assault in the park at around 1am on Tuesday, July 20.

The girl, who spoke only to confirm her name during the short hearing, will now appear at Cardiff Crown Court on August 23 for a further court hearing, along with two men who have also been charged in connection with the incident.

Jason Edwards, 25, and Lee William Strickland, 36, both from Cardiff, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with attempted murder and are remanded in custody until August 23.

No plea was entered, while the the girl will now be remanded into secure accommodation until the next hearing, rather than being placed on bail.
