Channel 4’s Remarkable Renovations: George Clarke’s incredible life from family tragedy to glamorous wife

George Clarke is back on our screens in his new show Remarkable Renovations on Channel 4.

In the programme, George meets families across the UK undertaking impressive home makeovers.

In tonight’s episode (Wednesday, July 28) he meets a Staffordshire couple who are renovating an abandoned 19th-century coach house while living in a caravan on-site.

While 47-year-old George is a familiar face to many fans, he keeps his personal life very private.

Early beginnings

The presenter has appeared in lots of renovation programmes

George was born in Sunderland in May 1974 – and still remains a massive Sunderland AFC supporter.

He trained as an architect after leaving school at 16 before starting his own company in 1998, with clients including chef Jamie Oliver and Simon Fuller.

He got into television by chance when he approached a literary agent about writing a book and didn’t realise the agency also represented TV presenters.

The agent asked him to do a screen test for a Channel 5 programme called Build A New Life in The Country – and the rest is history.

Since then he has presented shows such as George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, The Restoration Man, and Ugly House to Lovely House.

He has also written several books including Amazing Spaces and Build a New Life.

Is George married?

George has been married twice.

He tied the knot with Australian animator and art director Catriona Drummond in 2009 after dating since the early 2000s.

The couple had three children together – Georgie, 18, Emilio, 16, and 14-year-old Iona – and lived together in Notting Hill, West London in a house he, of course, renovated himself.

Tragedy hit the family after Catriona’s brother Swiggy sadly died from cancer in 2012.

He had been due to carry the Olympic torch in 2012 so in a heartwarming tribute, George carried it through Camden in his memory.

However, in 2013, George and Catriona announced their split and divorced the following year – reportedly due to their hectic work schedules.

George said in a statement: “We have been married quite a long time and decided to part. We have separate custody of the kids and are going through an amicable separation and divorce.”

George went on to meet American fashion marketing and communications consultant Katie.

They married in September 2018 in a glamorous ceremony in Ibiza.

The couple initially lived in London but have since moved to the Cotswolds.

“I’m in Gloucestershire with my wife and three kids. I also have a place in London, but home is in the Cotswolds now,” George wrote in the Times.

“I have quite a nomadic life – I travel a lot and spend on average three nights a week in hotels – so I take every opportunity I can to get home.”

The couple owns a beautiful Siberian husky named Loki – who has even appeared on his shows with George.
