Staycations are certainly on the cards this summer and there are plenty of places in the UK to visit and enjoy a weekend away.

The recent heatwave has definitely invoked that holiday feeling so a trip to the coast or countryside might be the perfect answer to your dreams of a holiday.

And there is a pretty village just 2 hours away from London which has afternoon tea so good, that people travel ‘100 miles’ for it – how quintessentially British.

The historic village of Burley is situated by the New Forest in Hampshire in England.

There is lots to do at this staycation hotspot from visiting gift shops, tea rooms and the well-known Burley Fudge shop.

The fudge shop has over 30 flavours of fudge as well as different types from hard and crumbly to soft and creamy.

There are also many more places to indulge, particularly in the various tea rooms in the village.

One Trip Advisor user said they “travelled over 100 miles for an afternoon tea” at The Old Station House Tea Rooms at Holmsley. The tea room is also rated as the 2nd best restaurant in Burley.

The Old Station House offers a traditional afternoon tea with dainty smoked salmon and cream sandwiches, fruit or plain scones and handmade cake for just £15 per person.

The best restaurant in the village, according to Trip Advisor, is the Cider Pantry where you get the chance to taste the infamous New Forest Cider straight from the barrels.

The village is also famous for its witchcraft and, if you fancy following in the footsteps of the village’s most famous witch, Sybil Leek, you can pick up a broomstick and cauldron in the gift shops.

The Coven of Witches has everything to satisfy your witchcraft needs (should you have any!) from candles to spell kits. You can even get psychic readings in the shop.

If you don’t want to be venturing around the shops, there also plenty of other things to do to enjoy rural England.

For instance, if you fancy doing some exercise while you are in the village, you can hire a bike in the centre of Burley at Forest Leisure Cycling.

You can hire a range of bicycles including mountain bikes, hybrid, tandem bikes and even dog trailers so you can bring your dog with you.

If you would rather opt for a walk, you can check out the Burley Food Trail which seems like a perfect introduction to the village.

While walking around the village, you can enjoy food and drink as well as traditional sweets and (yep, you guessed it) handmade fudge.

The New Forest Deer safari is also a must-visit for families to get the chance to be up close and personal with elegant deer.

So if you are in desperate need of a relaxing getaway, this pretty village may be your best bet!

Burley is roughly an hour and half’s drive from West London, and is pretty much a straight shot down the M3 and then the M27, before you get to the New Forest.

To get there by train, it takes just over two hours if you take the South Western Railway from Waterloo to Brockenhurst, then change to the New Forest Bus tour, which takes you straight to Burley town centre.
