London flooding: ‘Suddenly the water was rising and there was no stopping it’ | News

A woman whose home was flooded with almost a foot of water has described her family’s frantic attempt to hold back the deluge after torrential rain on Sunday.

Sonia Danischewsky, 43, said she was in “total shock” about how quickly water filled the ground floor of her house in Leytonstone, east London.

“The real scary part was how quick it happened,” said Danischewsky, who lives with her partner, Terry Robinson, 43, and two daughters, Lilia, 12, and Jessica, 17. “Suddenly the water was in the house and then suddenly it was two inches deep and then suddenly it was eight inches deep and there was no stopping it, there was nothing we could do.”

Two east London hospitals, Whipps Cross and Newham, were flooded
