MyLondon has approached the Department of Health for more information.

Whipps Cross has since confirmed that it’s suffered “operational issues due to the heavy rainfall”, and asked patients to seek an alternative A&E if possible.

East London has been hit particularly badly by the flash floods that have swept over London today.

The A406 near Walthamstow and the North Circular have been particularly affected with many drivers taking to social media to air their frustrations.

One video shows the high water levels on the A406 near the Walthamstow turnoff.

Sophie Daws shared her frustrations alongside the clip and urged other drivers to steer clear, writing: “Avoid A406! Near Walthamstow turnoff. Severe #flooding and stranded cars!”

To make matters worse for the capital, the Met Office has announced that an amber weather warning for thunderstorms is in place for London this evening.

It means that more ‘flooding is likely’.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to cause surface water flooding.

“Flooding of homes and businesses is likely and could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and isolated lightning strikes.

“Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely.

“Spray and sudden flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”

The full list of stations that are reportedly closed are as follows:

  • Covent Garden
  • Edgware Road (circle)
  • Gants Hill
  • Kennington
  • North Greenwich
  • Pudding Mill Lane
  • Stepney Green
  • Stockwell
  • Surrey Quays
