Odubajo ‘a class act’, says QPR boss

Mark Warburton called Moses Odubajo a “class act” after the former Brentford man scored a cracking goal in QPR’s win over Manchester United.

Rangers beat United 4-2 in a pre-season friendly, with Lyndon Dykes scoring twice and Charlie Austin also finding the net.

Odubajo, who played under Warburton at Brentford and is a free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday, has been training with the R’s.

And he is expected to sign for the club in the coming days.

Rangers boss Warburton said: “I know all about Moses. I know him inside out. He’s a class act on and off the field.

“He’s had a frustrating time with injury and there’s no doubt about his quality, we’re just looking at his fitness and durability – and he showed that this afternoon in abundance. You saw what a talented boy he is.

“I thought he had an outstanding game. From the first kick and first tackle he was on the front foot.”

Odubajo, 27, was offered a trial with a view to him being signed if he proved his fitness.

He has been troubled by injuries in recent seasons but is seen by Warburton as a quality addition to the squad – partly because he can also play on the left.

Odubajo is being brought in primarily to replace Todd Kane.

West London Sport revealed in May that Kane was being axed, with the club looking for a replacement.

Kane has been out of favour since Warburton became aware of an interview in which the former Chelsea trainee insisted he is a better player than Osman Kakay.

Odubajo will now compete with Kakay for a place on the right, while Kane has been training with the development squad.

QPR decided to go ahead with the Odubajo signing before the impressive display against United underlined why Warburton has been so keen to bring him in.

“I’m really pleased for him. He’s had a frustrating time but there’s no doubt he’s an outstanding athlete and an outstanding player,” Warburton said.
