London crime: City hit by night of violence leaving 1 dead and 2 in hospital

London was hit by three shocking knife attacks on Wednesday night (July 21), leaving one person dead and two others in hospital in a harrowing new chapter of the city’s knife crime epidemic.

In Brixton, a murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally stabbed in the street.

Meanwhile in Bexley and Hanwell, a teenage girl and woman were both taken to hospital after separate knife attacks.

Hanwell – Woman, 28, knifed in back ‘on way home from work’

A woman was rushed to hospital after she was stabbed in the back, reportedly while on her way home from work, in West London last night.

London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene on Greenford Avenue in Hanwell, Ealing, at 6.18pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 21).

The victim was taken to a major trauma centre after being treated at the scene.

The Met have confirmed that the victim is 28 years old, and that officers have arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of GBH – and that she remains in police custody.

A police spokesperson added that the victim’s injuries are not thought to be serious.

Bexley – Teenager slashed in broad daylight attack

A 19-year-old woman was also rushed to hospital with “slash wounds” after an attack in broad daylight in South London.

The Metropolitan Police were called at about 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 21) to Bexley High Street after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Officers, who were called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS), arrived at the scene to find the injured teenager.

An air ambulance was called but thankfully the woman’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have said enquiries are ongoing and at this stage no arrests have been made.

Brixton – Man stabbed to death outside Brixton Underground station

A man, believed to be in his early 20s, has been stabbed to death in Brixton

A man, believed to be aged in his early 20s, died following a stabbing close to Brixton Underground station.

Police were called just after 8.15pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, July, 21) to reports of an assault close to the station.

Officers provided first aid to the man when they found he was suffering from a stab wound.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London’s Air Ambulance were also called out but, despite their efforts, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene at 8.45pm.

Police arrested a man nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

An investigation is now underway following the death.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Police have said formal identification is yet to take place and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

A large police cordon including a forensics’ tent are in place at the scene.
