London Underground: Man hit and killed by train at Becontree Underground train station

A man has sadly died after being hit by a train near an Essex train station.

British Transport Police were called to Becontree Underground Station, Barking, yesterday (July 21) just before 4pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious by British Transport Police and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

While police were dealing with the incident, train services between Barking and Upminster on the c2c line were cancelled or severely delayed, with disruption lasting until 8pm on the line.

Services from and to Essex towns such as Pitsea, Grays, Southend Central and Shoeburyness were severely impacted and were cancelled for a period of time.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Becontree Underground station at 3.58pm yesterday (July 21) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
